About me
I got into programming as a kid and spent a lot of time in high school messing around with Linux, web programming, and Android development. I went to a community college for the second half of high school, served an LDS mission for two years in Malaysia and Singapore, and then got my Computer Science degree from BYU.
After graduating I worked for one year as a software engineer and then became a full-time founder; a career path which I equivocally recommend. I applied unsuccessfully to Y Combinator 9 times consecutively which I believe should qualify me for some sort of award. Now I work in the renewable energy industry.
I started using Clojure for various side projects while in college. As a founder I've used it for nearly everything. I'm active in the community as an open-source developer.
I met my wife while at BYU and we have two daughters. We'll probably homeschool them since I was homeschooled and liked it.
I played a lot of clarinet in high school and college, including in the now-defunct Everett Youth Symphony and in the BYU Symphony Orchestra. In between I developed focal dystonia which halted my playing for a few years. I also played some guitar + vocals casually and performed at some open mic nights. Between family and career, I don't currently have any time for music, but I'd like to get back into it when my kids are older.
I am a connoisseur of fine dad jokes; some of my favorites:
Two fish are in a tank. One turns to the other and says, “you take the steering wheel—I'll man the guns.”
I don't always tell dad jokes, but when I do, he listens.
Q: What's the difference between roast beef and pea soup? A: Anyone can roast beef.
Lest anyone dispute the "dad" status of any of these jokes, let it be known that I am a dad, and these are my jokes.
